Can it be at my real web address?

Yes. The rebuild you are looking at starts on a temporary address, but once you claim it you can put it at your own, like yoursite.com. You keep the address you have. Nothing changes for your visitors until you decide to point it here, and your old site stays up until then.

What is a web address?

It is the name people type to find you, like yoursite.com. It is also called a domain. You bought it from a company called a registrar, such as GoDaddy or Namecheap, and it points visitors to wherever your site lives. The address belongs to you, not to whoever built the site.

Why does the preview have a different one?

We built the preview on our own hosting, so it lives at a free sitectrl address that ends in .hosted.sitectrl.ai. Your real address still points at your current site, which we did not touch. Moving it is a separate step that only you do, when you are ready.

Three steps

  1. 1
Claim your rebuild. Press Claim it on the preview and create a free account. Unclaimed previews are deleted, so this keeps yours.
  2. 2
Pick a plan that includes your own domain. Connecting your own domain is on any paid plan. The free plan keeps your site on its sitectrl address. See the plans.
  3. 3
Add your domain. In your site's settings, open Domains, type your address and press Add domain. We show you exactly what to change at your registrar.

For a rebuild of an existing site, the Domains box already suggests the address we rebuilt from. It saves nothing until you press the button.

Where do I find my registrar?

It is the company you pay each year for the address. Look for it in your email receipts, or search your inbox for “domain renewal”. Common ones are GoDaddy, Namecheap, Squarespace (which took over Google Domains) and Cloudflare. Sign in there, find your domain and look for “DNS” or “manage DNS”. That is where the change in step 3 is made.

Advanced: the exact DNS record

For a name like www.yoursite.com, add a CNAME record at your registrar pointing to customers.sitectrl.ai. It is the same for every site.

A bare name like yoursite.com needs A records and a TXT record instead. The Domains screen shows the exact values once you add the name.
